Devlog 1: Welcome to Postway Pass
Welcome to Postway Pass!
Hey! Welcome to the first Postway Pass devlog! Postway Pass is the brainchild game of 7 students here at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia as apart of our final year project in the unit CRE312: Creative Media Projects. After the first hectic semester of creating our Minimum Viable Product, we’re thrilled to get back into it in this second semester and really polish and finish this game! Our devlogs will be full of exciting information about our game and we’re thrilled to bring you along with us on this journey! In this first post, we’ll be sharing a little bit about each team member and their role in the group.
Our Producer
Hello! My name’s Tilly and I’m the producer and marketing lead for Postway Pass. In my role as a producer, I take on a variety of tasks such as managing the team, leading meetings, maintaining our Trello board, assisting any conflict resolution and taking part in any other necessary tasks for the group out of my scope as a producer - such as concept art, 3D modelling, UI design and programming. As a (newly appointed) marketing lead, I’m responsible for writing and posting these devlogs as well as maintaining our other social media and producing our marketing assets.
I am currently studying a double degree in IT and Creative Media, majoring in 4 areas: Games Art and Design, Graphic Design, Computer Science and Games Software Production and Design - so I wear a lot of hats. Outside of uni, I work at Apple full-time as a Technical Specialist and absolutely love it. If I’m not at work or at uni, chances are I’m probably studying or at the gym!
I’m super passionate about the game we’ve all made and excited to showcase it when it’s done! I’m hoping that my role as producer and marketing lead can really push my career forward as an aspiring Software Engineer or Product Manager / Producer.
Our Tech Lead
Hi there! My name’s Daniel. I’m a 21-year-old Murdoch University student living in Western Australia. My family originates from the UK - moving to Australia in the early 2000s when I was still very young. I was exposed to games at a pretty young age. The PS2 was the first console we ever owned. My brother and I would play the hell out of Ratchet and Clank 2 on it all the time. Video games formed a great deal of who I am today and who I want to be in the future. I started pursuing game development as a career path towards the end of high school, starting a game development course in TAFE. My main interests lie in 3D art and animation, but I also enjoy programming and design. For Postway Pass, I am taking on the role of Technical Lead. This means that I am responsible for finding solutions to many of the tech-related problems that crop up in the project – Whether that be implementing gameplay mechanics, fixing bugs, or keeping file organisation in check. I am also the main programmer for the project, so I have a great deal of responsibility to make sure the game works correctly through scripts and other Unity features. My main goal for Postway Pass is to work with my team to create a solid, functional, and above all – fun experience for people to enjoy but also to prove to myself that I am capable of producing something that is worth people’s time and that I can be proud to have been a part of creating.
Our Design Lead
Hi! Im Kirsten and I'm the Design Lead for Postway Pass. I'm a 2D/3D artist that loves anything to do with viddy games and the colour purple! Besides that I love obsessing over shows and cartoons, drawing silly little characters, d&d, and shredded cheese >:^]
My role in this project entails keeping the design of the game cohesive across all areas including game mechanics and visual aesthetics/vibes, working closely with the rest of the team to coordinate and execute these design decisions. I have many goals I want to achieve while working on this project! As this is my first time really working together with a cohesive team to create a fully realized product, I hope to gain all the experience I can while learning how it is to work within a pipeline while developing this little game. A personal goal I have is to hone my skills in general Game Design and 3D Modelling skills :^]
3 fun facts about me:
- Average MMORPG enjoyer (Guild Wars 2 is my eternal BFF)
- Ghost pokemon are my favourite type
- Of the opinion that Avatar the Last Airbender is the best show ever created (*note from Tilly while uploading this: Agreed*)
Our 2D Art Lead
Hiya I'm Tahleia, the 2D art lead for Postway Pass! I help direct the visual style and concepting assets for our game. I'm your typical gamer, anime enjoyer and tired artist. I am rhythm game enthusiast, which is the only time I'm ever competitive, as well as with Splatoon. I love drawing original characters and fanart. Although I don't have a consistent art style, I can easily adapt any style with ease. My goal is to learn the process of making a video game that people can enjoy! While also learning to illustrate ideas that are functional while maintaining appealing design that meets the guidelines for our game. So that I can showcase my creative process in my portfolio as a concept artist.
Our 3D Art Lead
Hi :D My name is Tate, I am a tall and handsome 20 year old male with stunning eyes, and am the lead 3D artist of Postway Pass as well as the lead animator. Three fun facts about me are that I am a Keyboard enthusiast who enjoys building custom boards and am currently in the process of making a custom keyboard for one of my friends, I have been a massive fan of anime since I was very young, and I have done voiceover work for very small projects in the past. My goal for this project is to work with the other wonder members of the team to provide an enjoyable experience with beautiful models and animations to accompany them. While also working on the modelling and animations for the game, I want gain experience in other aspects of game design by helping my fellow team members.
Our Test Lead
I’m Madeleine. I’m the writer, test lead and 3D modeller for the game! I like dogs, gaming and good story telling. My favourite indie games are Wandersong and Bugsnax. My talents include ice skating, baking and crying. My favourite hobby is playing dungeons and dragons. My goal for this game is to write a story that gets people just as invested into the world of Postway Pass as we are! I want to make something that people enjoy.
Our Sound Designer
Hi everyone, my name is John Waterfield / birdsinneon (composer name). I am a music producer for video games and have composed/am composing for about 12 indie titles. I specialise in creating electronic music and enjoy making a whole range of genres. I love playing games and watching anime. My favourite game probably being stardew valley and my favourite anime being jojo. I’m also really into exercise/gym/fighting. My goal for working on this project is to get some more experience, add another game to my portfolio and most importantly get to see my music put into a cool little game :)
